Adyen is planning further expansion and hiring in India as it targets the country's growing digital payments and cross-border commerce markets. Its India workforce has increased significantly since 2023, while the company continues adapting its services to the country's payments and regulatory environment.

Dutch payments company Adyen plans to expand its operations in India and increase its local workforce as it targets the country's growing digital payments market and expanding cross-border commerce.

The company views India as a long-term growth market, supported by multinational businesses entering the country and Indian companies expanding into international markets. Adyen Asia-Pacific President Gary Yang said the company will continue hiring and growing in India, although it has not disclosed specific local hiring or growth targets.

Adyen has expanded its presence in India since receiving payment aggregator and cross-border licences in 2024. Its local employee count increased tenfold from 2023, reaching 120 employees in the first half of 2026.

The company's pre-tax income from India also more than doubled in 2025 to 3.18 million euros from 1.45 million euros the previous year, according to its annual reports.

Adyen is working with companies including Adobe as they expand their payment capabilities in India. It is also supporting Indian businesses such as travel platform Oyo with their international expansion.

The company has adapted its platform to India's regulatory and payments environment, including data localisation requirements, recurring payment mandates and Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services. Yang said UPI remains essential for operating successfully in the Indian market.

Adyen is also preparing for the potential growth of AI-powered "agentic commerce", in which software agents could search for products and complete purchases on behalf of consumers.
