Uber to Cut Around 3,300 Jobs in Major Workforce Restructuring

Uber Technologies plans to eliminate around 3,300 jobs, representing about 10% of its workforce, in its biggest workforce reduction since the COVID-19 pandemic.

CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the restructuring is intended to simplify the company's organization by reducing management layers and making decision-making faster. The company expects the leaner structure to generate savings that can be redirected toward growth, innovation and capabilities it considers important for the coming years.

The restructuring comes as Uber faces increasing competition from robotaxi operators. Waymo operates autonomous vehicles through Uber's platform in Austin and Atlanta, while also expanding into markets independently. Tesla and other companies are also increasing their focus on driverless transportation.

Uber plans to invest more than $10 billion in robotaxis in the coming years, supporting companies developing autonomous-driving technology and strengthening its position as a marketplace for driverless rides.

As part of the organizational changes, Uber plans to reduce employees who are seven or more reporting levels below the CEO by 20%. It will also nearly halve the number of teams with only one or two direct reports and combine some teams while concentrating employees around key hubs.

The company will also limit fully remote positions to around 1% of its workforce while continuing its three-day office policy.

The job cuts are Uber's largest since May 2020, when the company eliminated 6,700 positions following a sharp decline in demand during the pandemic. Uber had around 34,000 employees globally at the end of 2025.
