E-commerce, Quick-Commerce and Logistics Companies Step Up Seasonal Hiring Ahead of Festive Demand

E-commerce, quick-commerce and logistics companies are increasing seasonal hiring as the festive shopping period gets underway. The demand cycle began early this year with Raksha Bandhan on August 28 and is expected to extend through Diwali and the winter wedding season.

Meesho plans to facilitate more than 1 million seasonal job opportunities across its ecosystem. This includes nearly 650,000 opportunities through its seller network and around 375,000 within logistics. About 130,000 sellers are expected to recruit temporary workers for areas including packaging, manufacturing, production, warehousing and inventory management.

Meesho's logistics platform Valmo and its third-party logistics partners are also expected to expand capacity, creating seasonal positions in delivery, sortation, delivery-centre operations and supervisory functions.

Amazon has announced more than 160,000 seasonal work opportunities across its operations network in India, including its quick-commerce business Amazon Now. The opportunities span direct and indirect roles across 400 cities, covering activities such as picking, packing, shipping and delivery.

Both Amazon and Meesho said a significant share of these opportunities will be available outside metropolitan cities.

According to Apna, Tier-II and Tier-III cities now represent nearly 55 per cent of gig-job opportunities on its platform, compared with around 39 per cent two years ago. Gig opportunities in these cities have increased about 110 per cent year-on-year, while postings in metros have grown by around 86 per cent. Last-mile delivery and fulfilment are among the strongest areas of demand, with quick-commerce postings increasing by more than 600 per cent year-on-year.

TeamLease Services expects temporary festive hiring to increase by 15-20 per cent compared with last year. Employers are also increasingly seeking specialised positions, including quick-commerce dark-store associates, inventory and fulfilment coordinators, and quality-check and returns-management executives.

Drone logistics company Skye Air expects to add nearly 200 employees during the festive season. Around 150 of these positions are expected to be for DGCA-certified remote pilots and drone technicians, while the remaining roles will cover hub operations, flight operations and compliance.

Logistics company TrucksUp expects to increase its on-roll workforce by 20 per cent from its current strength of around 900 full-time employees. Its hiring focus includes product engineering, data science, deeptech innovation and core operations. The company also plans to expand its gig-partner network, which currently has around 5,000 partners.

Blue Dart expects to create approximately 3,000 front-end operations positions across its network. The company expects festive-season hiring to be 7-8 per cent higher than last year, with opportunities mainly in delivery operations, hub and gateway handling, sorting and last-mile logistics.
